saves municipality €67,000 – every year

Danfoss EnergyTrimTM helped 21 schools in the Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality in Denmark reduce their heating usage by 989,000 kWh in 2011. This corresponds to annual savings of 67,000 Euros. It is a good idea to give your heating system a thorough inspection because a renovation can save you a lot of money.
This is the conclusion drawn from an energy project in the Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality in Denmark. Here, the municipality’s 21 schools managed to shave 989,000 kWh off the 2011 heating consumption, thanks to Danfoss EnergyTrimTM – a service concept where Danfoss technicians help optimize and renovate heating systems.
The reduction in heating consumption corresponds to annual savings of 67,000 Euros, and engineer Flemming Møller at the municipality’s property company RKSK, is pleased with this.
“I must say that I am happy about this and I expect the savings to grow even more because we are still identifying areas at the schools that we can optimize,” he says.
Good collaboration and consultancy
Cooperation with Danfoss began in 2010. Together with the municipality’s service supervisors, Danfoss’ service technicians visited the schools to check the heating systems and adjust them for optimal operation.
Worn-out or defective components have been replaced and some of the schools have had a new control system installed for their heating system. A total of 10 so-called ECL Comfort 310 controllers have been mounted. The ECL Comfort 310 is a controller for district heating which facilitates central control of all radiators and heating systems.
“We have become wiser as to what we have in our buildings and what to do to keep consumption down. We have profited really well from the cooperation between our service supervisors at the schools and the Danfoss technicians, who were good cooperation partners,” says Flemming Møller.
Short pay-back time
He is particularly pleased with the fact that the new ECL Comfort 310 controller makes it possible to adjust the heating consumption via the Internet:
“I can help and advise our service supervisors, if they need it. And in the buildings which are not supervised, I am able to control and monitor the consumption directly from my office,” he says.
It was the prospects of a short pay-back time that made the municipality’s property company use Danfoss EnergyTrimTM. The municipality had earmarked 672,500 Euros for energy projects which would rapidly pay for themselves.
According to Flemming Møller, a total of 201,750 Euros have been invested in the optimization of heating systems in the schools.
“In other words, the pay-back time is about three years, and that’s really good,” he says.
He adds that the good results mean that the municipality is in the process of rolling out the EnergyTrimTM concept in 35 other of its buildings, primarily nursing homes as well as administrative buildings and kindergartens.
