And because the US-owned website refused to remove them, his business was affected and he lost income.So one day last week the 64-year-old proprietor of the eight-bedroom guesthouse – set in stunningly beautiful isolation on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis – appeared with a lawyer in the latest stage of his action to sue the organisation, worth around £3billion, for a £2,000 loss.Yet the landmark case is not about compensation, which is limited to £3,000 under the small claims procedure on which he has embarked. Mr Gollin wants TripAdvisor victims to stand up against false or malicious comments that render reviews untrustworthy – yet have the power to drive hoteliers and B&B proprietors out of business.
